Scuba Snorkel

A scuba snorkel, at its essence, is a simple device. The average snorkel has two parts, a mouthpiece and a barrel. The barrel stays above the water line, allowing the diver to breathe normally through the mouthpiece.

The size of barrel that a scuba snorkel employs plays an important role in how well it functions. Divers with larger lung capacities require larger diameter barrels in order to efficiently breathe in and out. The same can be said inversely.

A scuba snorkel is generally made from either rubber or silicone. Rubber is usually less expensive to manufacture, but also tends to dry and crack over time. Silicone is more popular because it generally has a longer lifespan.
