Scuba Diving
Scuba diving is the act of swimming underwater with the
use of a self-contained underwater breathing apparatus (SCUBA). The
breathing apparatus is tank of compressed air which is carried on the
back. The air is breathed in through the use of a regulator that is
held in the mouth.
Originally used for military operations and scientific research, scuba
diving has become a popular recreational activity as well. Many beach
resorts offer underwater diving lessons and tours. Universities and
colleges often offer scuba classes to their students.
Scuba diving has expanded to include many different applications over
the years. Commercial ventures like underwater salvage, off-shore oil
exploration and even fishing have all benefited from scuba technology.
Police services often employ scuba divers for underwater evidence recovery.
